Welcome to The Re.Center Blog: A New Chapter Begins

Updated: Dec 14, 2025

Healing happens through connection, and today feels like one of those full circle moments where that truth lands in a different way. If you are stepping into this space for the first time, welcome. This blog is where we talk honestly about recovery, resilience, community care, and what it looks like to build hope in Southwest Virginia.

And we get to start with big news.

A project that has been living in my head, my heart, and in countless conversations is now officially published. The paper that helped spark the vision for The Re.Center is out in the world.

I want to be very clear about something up front. This paper did not start with me.

The idea came from my co author and friend, Josh Thompson. He approached me with a concept that immediately felt real, important, and aligned with the work both of us care deeply about. What we built together blends research, lived experience, and the belief that healing is relational at its core. Without Josh bringing this idea forward, this project never would have taken shape the way it did.

Seeing it published is surreal. It is also validating in a way that goes beyond personal pride. It signals that rural voices, peer led recovery work, and trauma informed community care belong in academic spaces. They deserve that visibility. They deserve that respect.

And that is exactly the posture we are bringing into this blog.

The Re.Center was never designed to be a one person story. It is a shared table. A place where community members, students, teachers, counselors, peers, families, and neighbors can show up and feel seen. This blog is an extension of that table, a space for learning, storytelling, honesty, and connection.

You will see posts from me about recovery, CRM, WRAP, wellness practices, and the work happening across the NRV. But my hope is that this becomes a place where many voices come through. If you have a story, a reflection, an insight, or a piece of writing connected to wellness, resilience, or community healing, I would love to read it. If it fits the mission of The Re.Center, I will share it so others can learn from you too.

So welcome to the beginning of this blog.

Welcome to a page rooted in honesty and hope.

Welcome to a community that believes healing gets stronger when we share it.

And if you would like to read the published paper that helped bring this entire project to life, you can find it here:

I’m grateful you’re here.

Healing happens through connection, and this space is part of that connection.

Hello, my name is Jonathan. I have been considering a nondrinking lifestyle for a very long time. I often go a month alcohol free, sometimes two months, but when I reach that goal, I go right back to daily alcohol use. My usage on a daily routine is 3-5 drinks a day. I put myself in check when I reach a regular daily usage of 8 drinks a day. This typical time frame to get to 8 is usually many months depending on what's going on in my life. Often around that time, I find I want to start drinking at lunch or brunch on my days off, and just continue. I rarely drink at home alone. I love going…
